GBS Update: Thursday 22nd April 2010

We have just spoken to the nurse looking after Luke last night. She said he slept well and had just woken up. His BP has been stable overnight apart from when they put the nebuliser on.

The Consultant told us last evening that whatever we have read about GBS in terms of it’s severity, Luke is off the scale. He has an extreme version of the illness. Their plan is to try and keep him stable over the weekend, and with a big dose of antibiotics to try and eradicate any infection from his body. If they don’t see any great improvement over the weekend, and they don’t expect to, then their plan is to do ‘Plasma exchange’ next Tuesday or Wednesday. This will help Luke’s body to fight the GBS. The biggest risk with this procedure is infection, which is why they are trying to get rid of any infection he may have now. After the plasma exchange he would then be treated again with the immunoglobulin treatment. Their objective is to get him off the ventilator asap, and they don’t want GBS to run it’s natural course.

Our hearts are heavy, and there are moments when we are scared of what the future may bring BUT we continue to trust God for Luke‘s life. He has known Luke since before the foundation of the earth, and all the days ordained for him were written in His book before he ever came to be. We believe God has purposes for Luke’s life and we ask you to intercede with us,

For God to preserve Luke’s life and for his complete healing and restoration That Luke would fulfil the purposes for which God created him That he would continually know God’s passionate heart for him

Situations change, and circumstances change but God never does. He was good before any of this happened and He continues to be good throughout our lifetime.

‘The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.’ Psalm 34: 17-18

We cry out for healing and are so grateful to you for interceding with us

With our love

Gary and Debbie
