GBS Update: Tuesday 20th April 2010

‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.’ John 14:27

Luke had a very tiring day yesterday. He was perspiring loads all day; he felt hot on the inside and cold on the outside. He slept most of the time, and had quite painful legs. Yet when I asked if he was ok, he kept saying ’I feel happy, I just have no energy.’ His nurse yesterday told me that he is the ‘model’ patient. She said that often with GBS, people are angry and frustrated at what’s happening with their body, but she said that Luke has been really patient, courageous, uncomplaining and grateful when they are able to help him feel more comfortable. That has to be the peace of God, in a trial like this, when we are likely to be troubled and afraid.

The Neuro Doctor told Gary that they are pleased with Luke’s progress especially the movement in his shoulders and hips. The nurse also said that he is progressing more quickly than is usual for GBS. She commented on his swallow, which is usually not there at this stage, but Luke is swallowing really well, which is something we’ve been praying for!

Prayer points for today

1 That Luke’s temperature would stabilise and that if it’s to do with the chest infection that that would go

2 For increased strength in his body, and arms and legs. This really encourages him, to see parts of his body moving again!

3 For more energy, and for him to be able to communicate in increasing measure without getting too tired

4 Continue to pray for complete recovery and wholeness of body, mind and spirit

5 That Luke would continue to know hour by hour God’s love and peace, which is sustaining him

We are so grateful for all your words, mails, cards, texts that continue to come. We realise this is turning into a long journey, and it is very heartening to know that so many people are walking through this with us and in faith for God’s healing. And for the amazing provision of meals every night – a real blessing to come home to!

‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.’ 1 Cor 2:9 We wholeheartedly believe that God has purposes in this that one day we will see. He is faithful and has never let us down.

With love and gratitude as always

Gary and Debbie
