Many, many thanks for all your prayers for safe transfer yesterday. The ambulance was full with a consultant anaesthetist, charge nurse, two paramedics and a technician for the ventilator, all provided by the amazing NHS! We arrived at ICU at 3pm, to find Luke had arrived 20 minutes earlier, perfect timing. He looked rested and said he felt good. The reality is, however, that he is still totally paralysed apart from minimal movement in his fingers, and he can move his head and some of his facial muscles. His lips are still largely paralysed which is what makes lip reading interesting, for us and frustrating for him! The ward feels very different to Sheffield of course, but there is another GBS patient there, of the same age as Luke and at about the same stage. Luke mouthed to us yesterday that the race is on – he has a fighting spirit! He had a session of physio early evening, including to his facial muscles and scalp, which are stiff through being paralysed. We were told he will get up to 3 sessions of physio on weekdays and 1 at weekends. At the end of the evening he was shattered. We are back home with our lovely lads, who are delighted to have their brother close by.
We really value your ongoing prayers for Luke’s full restoration 1 That Luke would completely recover from this horrible illness 2 That his body strength would increase day by day 3 That his chest would remain free from infection, as that is a continual risk when you are ventilated 4 That the ward and it’s routines would soon feel familiar to him 5 God is the only one he can freely communicate with at this time. Please pray that Luke would know in the depth of his being God’s passionate heart for him
We will continue with the updates and thank you for standing with us and fighting in prayer for our son. We totally believe God has purposes in this, and that He hears every prayer.
